Schäferpfeife
Schäferpfeife
My German Dudelsack or Schäferpfeife was made by Helmut Moßman, Schwarzwald. It has two single reed drones and a chanter with a double reed, a little bit like the Galician gaita and the Scottish Highland pipe. I use the Dudelsack for medieval and renaissance music. Its compass is g-g1 but on good days it reaches two-three notes over the g1. Drones are single reed G-g,
To the left a detail from Brueghel's Peasants' wedding with a bagpipe similar to Mossman's Dudelsack.
