Hurdy Gurdy: The Groddalira

Mostly I play on a reconstruction of the so called Groddalira from Fleringe village on the island of Gotland in the Baltic. The Groddalira has strong affinities with the hurdy gurdies played in Europe under the late medieval era. It is very well apted for medieval or rennaissance music and of course folk music. The original remains in the Gotland county museum Fornsalen in Visby. It was owned and played by a peasant family in Fleringe at the beginning of the 19th century. My reconstruction was made by Ingvar Jörpeland 1984.
